Codes for New HIB Vaccine

GlaxoSmithKline has submitted a new HIB vaccine to FDA for approval. This vaccine is similar to a previous vaccine distributed by GSK (OmniHIB). Both are HIB PRP-T formulations. OminHIB has been withdrawn from the market. The new vaccine will have the same CVX code. Systems which need to deduce trade name from CVX and MVX will need to base the logic on vaccination date.

Some systems receive immunization records from billing systems which use CPT code. In many of these cases, manufacturer is not included in the record. The new vaccine will have the same CPT code as the old HIB PRP-T. Keeping the same CVX code will allow these systems to be able to identify the vaccine as HIB PRP-T.

HIB-PRP-T has a CVX code of 48 and a CPT code of 90648.
