The American Academy of Pediatrics was started back in 1930 when the notion of children’s health as distinct from adult health was just taking root. Its vision today is for all children to attain their optimal physical, mental and social health. With 57,000 members from all disciplines of pediatric medicine, the AAP is a strong advocate for immunization registries and the key role they play in helping providers keep children safe and healthy.

The association’s goal is to advance a vibrant public-private health care system. AHIP supports providing consumers with the information they need to make sound health care decisions and expanding access to affordable health care to all Americans.

ASTHO — Association for State and Territorial Health Officials

The Association for State and Territorial Health Officials represents the state and territorial public health agencies of the United States, U.S. Territories and the District of Columbia. Its members are the chief health officials of their jurisdictions, who work at the policy level to assure high quality public health care programs. ASTHO supports immunization registries and their linkage to other health care information systems.

CDC/NIP — Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/National Immunization Program

As a vital program of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Immunization Program’s leadership provides direction and support for immunization programs throughout the country. In 2001, NIP committed to realizing the 2010 immunization registry national objective of having 95% of children up to six years old entered into a fully operational population-based immunization registry.

ECBT — Every Child By Two

Every Child By Two was founded in 1991 by Former First Lady of the United States, Rosalyn Carter, and Former First Lady of Arkansas, Betty Bumpers, in response to the 1989-1991 measles epidemic. ECBT advocates for the immunization of all children by the age of two. Along with other initiatives, ECBT is working to promote immunization registries as a vital and essential tool toward achieving this goal.

IHS – Indian Health Services

Indian Health Services (IHS) is an agency of the Department of Health and Human Services charged with delivering comprehensive and culturally acceptable health services to American Indians and Alaska Natives. The preventative and therapeutic services provided by the IHS range from elder care and child health to sanitation facilities and domestic violence. Services are provided directly by IHS or through funded tribal programs and private providers.

NAPHIT – National Association for Public Health Information Technology

The National Association for Public Health Information Technology (NAPHIT) serves as a forum for information technology (IT) leaders in public health to share their knowledge and experience; effect public health policy; and investigate the latest advances in public health information systems. Originally named APHCIO (Association for Public Health Chief Information Officers), NAPHIT’s name change represents its decision to open its membership to all leaders in public health IT, not just technology information officers.

NVAC – National Vaccine Advisory Committee

The National Vaccine Advisory Committee is a committee of the National Vaccine Program Office (NVPO), established to make recommendations to its director on such matters as the safety and availability of vaccine supplies. Its aim is to achieve maximum prevention of vaccine preventable diseases and adverse vaccine effects. In February 2003, NVAC passed a resolution endorsing the PROW (Programmatic Registry Operations Workgroup) Standards of Excellence in Support of an Immunization Registry.

PHII — Public Health Informatics Institute

The Public Health Informatics Institute, founded in 2002, is supported with a grant from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF). This organization works to enhance state and local public health practitioners’ use of information technology through education, service, advocacy, partnerships and research. PHII evolved from All Kids Count, a program established by RWJF in 1991 to support the development of immunization registries.
