In Their Own Words: Pediatric Associates of Whidbey Island Tell How They Use CHILD Profile With Great ResultsWe've been using the CHILD Profile Immunization Registry for about six years now. We are a busy pediatric practice and have put thousands of records into the registry. It was pretty time-consuming when we first got started, but the payoff has been well worth it! Here's how we made it work for us. Every time a child comes in for an immunization, we enter the new immunizations as well as the historical shots. The nurses do all the data entry, and fit it in between patients whenever they have a spare moment. (One thing we emphasize is accuracy - the system is only as good as the quality of its data.) Every month, we use CHILD Profile to run a recall report on children, birth to 2 years of age, and call parents of children who are overdue for their vaccines. If they don't come in for their immunizations, they'll show up on the recall report again and we'll continue to follow-up. A couple of times a year we also run recall reports for the 4 to 6 year olds to catch kids who need immunizations to enter Kindergarten. We start this in May, which has really helped to avoid the late summer rush for immunizations. The commitment of our nursing staff has been essential to our success. And they are committed because they see tangible benefits. CHILD Profile also saves us time in producing our monthly vaccine usage reports. Instead of doing a hand-tally and keeping track of each dose administered manually, CHILD Profile does this for us, saving at least a couple of hours of work each month. It was a lot of work in the beginning, but we're reaping the benefits now. CHILD Profile is a valuable tool for us!
