AIRA, under a contract with the CDC, is coordinating a project
to develop programmatic standards for immunization registries
in support of the core functions of immunization programs. The
project was launched in October 2001. To date the following
activities have been initiated:
-
A survey of immunization program and registry managers was
conducted on immunization registry support of immunization
programs. Results of the survey have been analyzed and the
final report will be distributed via electronic mail to all
immunization program and registry managers. Overall, the survey
clearly indicated that immunization programs currently use
registries to support core functions and that there is high
interest in expanding this use.
-
A focus group of immunization program managers was held
at the CDC Program Manager Annual Meeting. The purpose of
the focus group was to discuss key findings of the survey
and to seek input on the PROW project. A report of the findings
of the focus group will be distributed to all immunization
program and registry managers. Overall, the focus group outcomes
support the development of programmatic registry operations
standards to improve registry capacity and enhance the effectiveness
of immunization programs.
-
A Programmatic Registry Operations Workgroup (PROW) has
been formed. It is divided into two sections: the PROW Core
Group that has responsibility for developing the program standards
and the PROW Review Group that has responsibility for review
and input on all documents developed by the Core Group. Both
groups are representative of immunization program and registry
managers and also include representation from other groups
that are key stakeholders in registry development. The Core
Group has had one conference call meeting and will hold its
first face-to-face meeting at the NIC in Denver on Sunday,
April 28, 2002, from 1:00-6:00 PM. Results of that meeting
will be distributed to the Review Group for review and comment.
We expect the work of the PROW to be completed by September
2002. A presentation on the overall outcomes of the project
will be given at the Immunization Registry Conference in October
in Philadelphia. Questions regarding the project can be directed
to Cindy Sutliff, Executive Director, AIRA at csutliff@health.nyc.gov.
