July SnapShots: Partnership of Utah Health Plan and Immunization Registry Wins First Place Award from AAHPIntermountain Health Care has been awarded the "Celebrating Innovations in Immunization 2002 First Place Award" by the American Association of Health Plans for its collaboration with the Utah Statewide Immunization Information System. This award was based on the partnership between IHC and USIIS to provide real-time complete immunization information to doctors through an Internet-based application called WebKIDS. This partnership has been very beneficial to both IHC and USIIS and has been highlighted in local newspapers. IHC has increased immunization rates, reduced the number of missed opportunities, and significantly reduced the amount of time of an immunization encounter. They have been provided with a means to manage vaccine inventory and a dynamic way to create reports for VFC, parents, and schools. They have also been able to use the data to increase their HEDIS© measures for both commercial and Medicaid members. To USIIS the partnership means a higher penetration rate of children in the registry and credibility as a viable source of immunization information. Credibility is an important asset for a state program. Small clinics look to the IHCs of the world to see if a product is worth using. This partnership has allowed USIIS to roll forward and become a clinical solution to providing children with the immunizations they need. (Source: George Nay, Utah SIIS) |
