Proposed AIRA Bylaws

AIRA has updated its bylaws to reflect how it operates as an organization as well as governance best practices. For the updated bylaws to take effect, AIRA’s membership must vote in favor of them.

Please review AIRA’s proposed bylaws and attend a Town Hall meeting on Monday, June 10 at 3pm ET to discuss them. Comments on the proposed bylaws are welcome through Friday, June 14. If membership is in favor of moving forward, AIRA will open voting on the proposed bylaws on June 17. Please note, this is a voting-members-only process.

The full schedule to review, discuss, and vote on the proposed AIRA bylaws is below:

  • May 30: Proposed bylaws sent to AIRA membership
  • June 10, 3 p.m. ET: Town Hall to review and discuss proposed bylaws with AIRA membership (register here)
  • June 14: All comments due from AIRA membership (please send to Kim Rutland with AIRA)
  • June 17: Electronic voting on proposed bylaws begins
  • June 28: Election Day meeting for non-electronic voters; last day to vote electronically

AIRA Holds Two Regional Workshops in May

AIRA offered two regional workshops during the week of May 6. The first was in Nashville, Tennessee followed by Denver, Colorado later in the week. The meetings kicked off with each IIS sharing its current activities, challenges, needed resources, best thing learned over the past year, and most creative data use. Attendees continued to participate in discussions on AIRA’s Measurement and Improvement project, problem solving for onboarding pain points, and new and innovative ways to promote IIS. The ample discussions provided extremely interactive sessions allowing jurisdictions to learn from one another.

AIRA Attends and Presents at NAIIS

On May 14-16, AIRA staff attended and presented on IIS topics at the National Adult and Influenza Immunization Summit (NAIIS), a three-day conference hosted by the Immunization Action Coalition and held in Atlanta, Georgia. The Summit offers an opportunity for clinicians, public health staff, CDC, non profit organizations, and other professionals to share information, collaborate, and plan together on addressing adult vaccination topics and issues related to the upcoming influenza season. AIRA staff presented on a panel and also presented a poster (below) addressing interoperability between EHRs and IIS. The venue provided an opportunity to meet informally with colleagues to share the successes and advances of the IIS community.

 2019 Validation Reports

Good News!  AIRA and the members of MACAW (the Measurement for Assessment and Certification Advisory Workgroup) continue to see improvement across the IIS community as IIS become better aligned with national standards.  The latest individual IIS results for Transport, Submission/Acknowledgment, and Query/Response Validation are available in AART (the Aggregate Analysis Reporting Tool) for authorized users. 2019 Validation summary reports for Transport, Submission/Acknowledgment, and Query/Response are also posted on the AIRA Repository here.

You may notice some small changes on the Validation summary reports. To more clearly identify aggregate numbers and percentages of those IIS that were measured for each content area, the summary report coversheet has been updated.

And congratulations are in order! Certificates to recognize those IIS that have been validated in 2019 will be mailed in early June.

Quick Bites: Training Advice in 60 Seconds or Less

We asked the Education Steering Committee members to give us 60-seconds worth of advice in regards to training users about IIS.

1-Minute Question: What is one piece of advice you would give in regards to training users about the IIS?

Responses:

  • Think about what people need to do, think about why they're not doing it, and give them as little information as is necessary to get from point A to point B. Once you have that, think about how to deliver that information to your audience as close to the action (the workflow) as possible.
  • Tailor the training to your audience by demonstrating real-life IIS uses that can benefit them in their roles.
  • If training in a test/training environment, make sure that the your training docs are updated with each release and have a plan for if the system stops working while you are training or if the place where are supposed to conduct the training does not have internet…and remain calm.

Recent Information Requests Added to the AIRA Repository

Responses are still being gathered on the Information Request sent out on May 28 regarding responding to the measles outbreak. Information Request results are posted once complete and can be found by using the “Information Requests” filter in the AIRA repository. Information Requests are viewable only by individual members and individuals affiliated with member and partner organizations. Just log in to view these valuable resources! If you have any questions, please email membership coordinator Amanda Branham.
