2019 AIM Leadership in Action Conference

The Association of Immunization Managers (AIM) held their 2019 Leadership In Action celebration in New Orleans, Louisiana December 10 to December 12, and AIRA staff were excited to take part in the learning. Speakers included Dr. Melinda Wharton and Dr. Walt Orenstein, who provided perspective on the important role Immunization Program Managers play currently, especially during this time of multiple vaccine-preventable outbreaks and anti-vaccination sentiments.

The action-packed event included a celebration of AIM’s 20th Anniversary as an organization, including reflections on AIM’s 20 year track record of improving immunization rates and provision, as well as a well-attended second-line parade march through the city.

AIRA was proud to be among the many celebrating AIM for their partnership and significant accomplishments over the last two decades.

Register Now for a 3-Part Webinar Series on Centralized Reminder/Recall Using an IIS

AIRA, in partnership with the University of Colorado, is hosting a three-week webinar series in February on Centralized Reminder/Recall: A Deep Dive into Using a New Toolkit. We hope you’ll join us for webinars one, two, and three! The webinars will be held on three Tuesdays in a row: February 4, 11, and 18, 2020, at 3 p.m. ET. This webinar series will share methodologies for improving your immunization rates and enhancing your clinic and provider reminder/recall. For those programs that are already doing reminder/recall, or have yet to start, this webinar is for you!

Overview: Week one will review the compelling results from a national IIS survey and interviews with IIS about current centralized reminder/recall best practices, along with an overview of a newly developed toolkit. Weeks two and three will go in depth into the toolkit, showcasing a variety of IIS’s experiences with various key components of reminder/recall and the toolkit. Speakers include representatives from Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Dakota, New York City, and more. Learn from other IIS about reminder/recall success and lessons learned!

Who Should Join? You! The webinar was created for all IIS and immunization program managers and staff, immunization partners, and anyone with an interest in IIS-based reminder recall.

Tell Me More. The webinar series is three weeks long and will feature several IIS. If you must miss one (or two) webinars in the series, you can still join us at any point! The webinars have been strategically designed so that attendees can jump into the series and still get valuable information out of it. Register for the first, second, and third webinar today!

Sneak Peak: AIRA Education Survey Summary Report

The AIRA Education Survey Summary Report is coming soon, but for those of you who just can’t wait, here are a few highlights.

You told us:

  • IIS strengths include strong provider relations and robust, integrated data.
  • Limited staff, data submission and use, and issues with providers (e.g., turnover) are top challenges for IIS.
  • The top priorities for IIS include data quality, data (e.g., exchange, entry, analysis), and working with providers.
  • There is widespread need for additional guidance for topics including data quality, technical capacity, data use, and data sharing
  • The results of the survey demonstrate an interest in efficient and effective training. AIRA should prioritize disseminating information via live webinars, annual meetings, and self-paced online training.

We also want to thank those of you who responded to the survey. We heard from 131 respondents and responses were recorded from all member state and city immunization program jurisdictions, the District of Columbia, and six territories and islands.

 Measurement and Improvement Town Hall

AIRA and MACAW (the Measurement for Assessment and Certification Advisory Workgroup) invite you to a Town Hall meeting to discuss proposed Incoming/Ongoing Assessment Measures and Tests, Clinical Decision Support (CDS) Assessment thresholds, and CDS Validation. This call is scheduled for January 9, 2020 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET.

After extensive discussions, MACAW is recommending a new content area for Incoming/Ongoing Data Assessment, changes to CDS Assessment thresholds starting in January of 2021, and basic and complete levels for CDS Validation. More information can be found in the measures and tests documents attached.  Please register here to attend the Town Hall webinar on January 9. The Town Hall information can also be found on the AIRA website. We hope you will be able to join us.

We are also pleased to announce that Quarter 4 2019 individual reports for all content areas are available in AART, the Aggregate Analysis Reporting Tool. This is the first Submission and Acknowledgment Assessment report that includes the two new measures described below.

15. The IIS processes an administered vaccine using the preferred NDC format.
