Interjurisdictional Exchange

IIS Interjurisdictional Exchange is a growing priority across the IIS community. As the US population becomes increasingly mobile, there is a greater need to query and exchange information across jurisdictional lines. Many regional exchanges are already under way, either between neighboring jurisdictions (e.g., Oregon and Washington) or between city and state jurisdictions (e.g., New York state and New York City).

Interjurisdictional Community of Practice

The Interjurisdictional Community of Practice (CoP) is a monthly forum for sharing various perspectives and working together as a community to address common IIS-to-IIS data exchange barriers and solutions. The group focuses primarily on policy issues, but it also addresses technical barriers and solutions.

The CoP is co-facilitated by AIRA and ASTHO and functions under a Team Charter. The CoP supports all jurisdictions signing the Public Health Interjurisdictional IIS Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

In addition, AIRA is also launching a project to expand its role as “Administrator” for IIS-IIS Exchange. The charter for this project outlines the goals and objectives of this effort.

Multistate MOU

The Public Health Interjurisdictional IIS Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) provides a template MOU for secure, electronic exchange of immunization information among governmental entities that operate an IIS. The Community of Practice supports all jurisdictions signing this MOU.

An increasing number of jurisdictions have signed and submitted the multistate MOU. A collated set of signed agreements is available. If you would like to be added to this set of agreements, simply fill out and sign the Multistate MOU, and submit it to Mary Beth Kurilo at AIRA.
